Default Consideration Credit Cards

This is a living reference of credit cards that, at a given point in time, deserve default consideration for most people.

At SwipeSahiHai, we use the term default consideration to describe cards that solve common spending problems cleanly, require minimal optimisation, and fit naturally into a wide range of credit card portfolios.

This page is reviewed and updated as offers change, cards are devalued, or better alternatives emerge. A card listed here today may not belong here in the future.

What “Default Consideration” Means

  • The card delivers value without complex rules or optimisation
  • The benefit-to-effort ratio is clearly positive
  • The card fills a broadly useful role in a portfolio
  • The downside of holding the card is low or negligible

This is not a list of the “best” cards. It is a shortlist of cards worth evaluating by default, before exploring more specialised options.

HSBC Live+ Credit Card

What the card does: Offers 10% cashback on groceries, dining, and food delivery spends — including platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, DMart, and even neighbourhood grocery stores — up to a defined monthly cap.

The cashback is capped at ₹1,000 per month, which is optimally utilised at around ₹10,000 of eligible spend. Cashback is credited directly to the statement.

One can save upto ₹12,000 per annum. A pretty good ROI for ₹1,000 fees.

Role in a wallet: Default card for groceries and food-related spends.

Why it belongs here:

  • High returns on unavoidable, recurring categories
  • Works across both online platforms and offline stores
  • No portals, milestones, or reward conversions

When it stops being a default consideration:

  • If cashback caps are materially reduced
  • If equivalent grocery and dining coverage already exists

IndusInd Tiger Credit Card

What the card does: Provides complimentary domestic airport lounge access, limited international lounge access via Priority Pass, – all without an annual fee and without any spend criteria. Unfortunately a unique benefit in 2026

Role in a wallet: Lounge card only.

Why it belongs here:

  • Zero-fee access to benefits usually tied to paid cards
  • Lounge access without maintaining a premium card

When it stops being a default consideration:

  • If lounge access is already fully covered
  • If travel and airport usage is minimal

Jupiter Edge+

What the card does: Offers 10× reward points on a defined set of high-frequency shopping brands, usable across both online and offline transactions. Brands covered: Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Ajio, Zara, Nykaa, Croma, Reliance Trends, Tata Cliq, Reliance Digital

The 10× rewards apply to a fixed list of merchants, while rewards earned can be redeemed in ways that translate cleanly into real-world value. UPI rewards exist as a secondary benefit.

Role in a wallet: High-frequency shopping card for partner brands.

Why it belongs here:

  • High returns on commonly used shopping merchants
  • Works for both online and offline transactions
  • Amazon Pay voucher redemption improves liquidity of rewards

When it stops being a default consideration:

  • If spending rarely overlaps with the 10× partner brands
  • If similar or higher returns are already available elsewhere

How This List Evolves

This page is reviewed periodically. Cards may be added, downgraded, or removed as:

  • Reward structures change
  • Annual fees are introduced or removed
  • Spending caps or exclusions are modified
  • Better alternatives become available

A card being removed from this list does not make it a bad card — it simply means it no longer qualifies as a default consideration.

Change Log

  • Feb 2026: Initial publication. Added HSBC Live+, IndusInd Tiger (LTF), and Jupiter Edge+.

Bottom Line

Default consideration cards are not about maximising rewards. They are about reducing decision fatigue and covering common spending needs cleanly.

If a card listed here fits your spending reality, it can be added with confidence. If it doesn’t, skipping it is the correct choice.

Smart swipes only.
